The new client is being built on an HTML5 framework, which will come as a relief to players tired of Riot’s mythically memetic refrain blaming user experience woes on the limitations of the Adobe Air programming language. The new client has a “Hextech-inspired” style, designed to look “like the inside of Jayce’s Mercury Hammer.” The biggest additional feature announced so far is a lightweight Friends List app that can be launched outside of the main client, allowing you to chat and see when friends are online or in-game. The client update alpha test will be pushed out in “waves,” first hitting the PBE to test for stability before making its way to alpha testers for more prolonged examination.
In a post today on their official site, Riot announced that they will be opening sign-ups for alpha testing the new client to League of Legends players who want to help them get the kinks ironed out and get a sneak peak at the new look and features.
